Pimpri,2 (PCB)- AMIDST speculations of Ajit Pawar heading towards BJP, Sharad Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party, in a sudden move, on Tuesday decided to step down as the boss of the party. However, party workers and leaders have refused to accept his move to step aside and are putting all pressure on him to withdraw his resignation.

“I have decided to president as the national president of the NCP,” Sharad Pawar, fondly addressed as “Saheb” by party rank and file, said at the launch of the second edition of his autobiography Lok Maze Sangati.

Moments after his announcement, party workers and leaders mobbed and pressured him to withdraw his resignation. Several top leaders including the likes of State NCP president Jayant Patil and Jeetendra Awhad broke down while urging Mr Pawar to withdraw his resignation and save the party and the nation.

Leaders after leaders spoke at the meeting urging him to reverse his decision. However, Pawar and his wife remained unmoved. As pressure on him mounted, Pawar took the mike in his hand and said he will continue to work with the party and will attend party meetings and functions. “I am resigning from the party but will remain part of it,” a glum faced Sharad Pawar.

Ajit Pawar who was also present at the meeting tried to pacify the inflamed passions of the party workers and leaders. Political circles believe that Mr Pawar might have taken the decision as he was unhappy with Ajit Pawar’s decision to join hands with BJP. However, Ajit Pawar has already clarified that he will remain with NCP till his last breath, said an NCP leader.
